Title: equilibrium constant
Post by: Vasheeta on October 03, 2012, 10:35:38 PM
How do you Calculate the equilibrium constant and predict delta G for the reaction of acid HA and water.
(pKa = –9 for HA, pKa = –1.74 for H3O+)

HA+H2O --->A– +H3O+

Keq= 10^(pKa(H3O+)-pKa HA)
10^(-1.74-(-9))= 10^ 7.26
The Keq of an acid–base reaction is equal to 10 raised
to the power of the pKa of the acid on the product side minus the pKa of the
acid on the reactant side.
