I am doing a project and my partner and I are just not understanding the terms: "Non-homologous end joining pathways" and "Homologous direct repair mechanism."

What is the difference between a sgRNA and an sgRNA-Cas9 complex?

I'm a little confused on PAMs. Is a PAM something that is in the DNA that is necessary for CRISPR-Cas9 to be done, or is it something that CRISPR always edits? Is it something like the sgRNA, that helps guide the CRISPR and the CRISPR will ALWAYS cut 3-4 nucleotides away from it? Does PAM repeat every now and then?
