Akenes undergo oxidation reactions with  dilute KMnO4  and osmium tetroxide to give vicinal diols.
However hydroboration followed by oxidation results in addition of water by anti Markownikov's rule.
With Conc KMnO4 ,carbon -carbon double bond oxidized to carboxylate ions which on addition of H+ gives carboxylic acids .
