Different frequency ranges  of electromagnetic spectrum   are used for detection of molecules.
IR spectrum is used to determine type of functional group depending on the strength of bonds .Bonds are considered as a spring and they vibrate like spring on stretching .  They can be determined with the help of their stretching wavenumbers or frequencies.
NMR spectrum is based on rotational frequencies and it helps in degerming the connectivity of atoms in a molecule.
UV     spectrum is based on conjugation of the pi bonds .
